Colin Mileman - Mileman Media

I have been an active, full-time motoring journalist since 1997. My schooling was completed in 1992
at John Orr Technical High School in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, where I was the leading student in English First Language and Motor Mechanics - hence my strong passion for motoring journalism.

Thereafter I obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1995 at the internationally renowned Rhodes University in Grahamstown in South Africa. My major subject was Journalism and Media Studies
with a specialisation in PhotoJournalism. My second major subject was Politics and
International Relations.

In 1996, I was accepted as the first ever South African Guild of Motoring Journalists post-graduate Bursary student. On completion of the training programme, I was fortunate enough to join Topcar magazine, South Africa’s second-largest specialist motoring title.

In 1999 I was appointed deputy editor of the magazine, and promoted to editor in 2001.
I was also part of the team that founded Topbike in 1998, and was appointed editor
of the sister title.

In 2003, I joined a leading independent motor group to gain experience on the
retail side of the industry. In May 2004 I finally fulfilled a long-standing ambition
of starting my own freelance business, covering motoring journalism, photography,
communications and advanced driving.

The business gained new impetus following the rebranding as Mileman Media
in August 2009, with the focus on providing professional and practical media solutions,
specialising in photography, writing and communications, as well as advanced driving.
